Yo peeps… How many times have you looked at a newly opened restaurant or cafe and shook your head knowing that they won’t last the year. Quite frequently I’d imagine. Whether you are walking about Changkat Bukit Bintang, Jalan Telawi or 1 Utama… somehow you all have a gut feeling about what works and what doesn’t… in that area… and you say…
“No freaking way this restaurant can survive here!”

If I were selling errrm… adult services, I don’t think anyone would pick me among these hotties.
The key to this is market positioning. Now, I can’t possibly give a detailed lecture on this topic (it is such a dry topic that this blog will shrivel up, disappear and create a cyber black hole) on this blog but the typical process of forming a positioning strategy is to firstly study, understand and define the market in which the product or brand will compete. This means many things for restaurants but among the many points… I believe this is crucial:
Differentiate yourself from the rest with a viable and attractive proposition.
Strangely enough, quite a number of entrepreneurs and restaurateurs have missed this first step in positioning. They focus so much on their food, decor and are dumbfounded when they don’t have customers. All I can say is… “Wrong kinda place… in the wrong place and possibly at the wrong time too.” Too much focus on the analysis inward and they have forgot to look outward and around them… outcome… PARALYSIS!
Know thy market… hell… define a new market if you can… and you dramatically increase your success…
I win among these losers… W00Tz!
