From time to time, whenever I see this logo… I wonder what the A and W stands for. Problem is… I keep forgetting to look it up. This fast food joint has been in Malaysia for so long (since the 1960s if I am not wrong) and yet little is known about the “A” and the “W”. Not too long ago my friend lied to a lady to look smart and said it stood for Ahmad & Wahab.
Taken from Wikipedia:
The company name was taken from the last name initials of partners Roy Allen and Frank Wright.
So there you have it Allen & Wright. Not quite as Malaysian as one would have hoped like Ahmad & Wahab… but there you go. Hope that has been an interesting discovery for you.

But. Ahmad & Wahab sounds cooler.
well, we should not it is not local chain right?
chis, i’ve been cheated. when i was young, someone told me it was AROUND & WORLD…. the bad grammar should’ve been a dead giveaway
While you’re at it, could you also explain how the Bear came about? ^_^
I mish A&W waffles..
What an interesting question gfad… well, this is from one source and I don’t know the credibility…
“Root beer has its origins in what is referred to as small beers. Small beers are a collection of local beverages (some alcoholic, some not) made during colonial times in America from a variety of herbs, barks, and roots that commonly included: birch beer, sarsparilla beer, ginger beer and root beer.”

BEAR Frat, BEAR. Not beer…
OOOOH the BEAR! Well… from what I have read… the bear is called The Great Root Bear… so I can only imagine it is a play on words. The Great Root Bear vs. The Great Root Beer.
Wikipedia says that The Great Root Bear was first used in Canada in 1974.
GUFFFFFFFFFFAW about the bear/beer thing!!!!
